MEET YOUR SALT LAKE CITY EMDR THERAPIST
Hi, I’m Kelsey, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in EMDR therapy for women and teens who feel like they could benefit from more than traditional talk therapy.
You’ve been in therapy on and off for years. You understand your patterns, you know where they came from, but you still feel stuck. It’s not because you don’t get it or because you’re just not "healed enough” yet. It’s a sign that things are buried beneath the surface or perhaps stored in your body in a way that talk therapy can’t access. That’s exactly where EMDR works.
I’ve spent years using my training to help clients access what their bodies have been holding onto. I know what it’s like to feel like you have come so far and yet your self-doubt, shame and fear are still in the driver’s seat of your life. Our minds and bodies are inextricably connected and EMDR feels and works differently. Thinking can only take us so far - we need to tap into our body’s innate wisdom. Healing can look like creating enough safety to finally feel the hardships and let them go.
If you’re ready to find relief, I’m here to help!
Frequently Asked Questions

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. Through a structured session protocol, this type of therapy allows you to reprocess distressing memories so they feel less troublesome and more adaptive. Through bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping or sounds) your nervous systems lets go of old, heavy and difficult beliefs and makes room for new, more empowering ones.
-
EMDR follows an 8 step protocol:
History Taking: This is where we get to know each other, build trust and I learn about your story. In this phase, we discuss your goals and desired outcomes.
Preparation: We will make sure your nervous system is ready to access potentially difficult memories. We will learn grounding techniques, calming tools and you will get an idea of how EMDR “works”.
Assessment: We identify a target memory and the thoughts, feelings, and body sensations connected to it.
Desensitization: Using bilateral stimulation, we begin processing the memory so it feels less distressing. Depending on the nature and complexity of the trauma, this could take several sessions.
Installation: We strengthen a positive belief to replace the old, limiting one tied to the memory.
Body Scan: We check in with your body to notice and release any leftover tension or activation.
Closure: Each session ends with grounding and care to make sure you leave feeling stable and supported, whether the memory requires further sessions or not.
Reevaluation: We check in at the next session to make sure the shifts are sticking and continue the work.

No! While we will recall parts of a distressing memory, you will never have to say details out loud. Mostly, you will be connecting with your brains internal dialogue and I will be checking in with you briefly. You can share as much or as little as you’d like. We will ALWAYS go at a pace that feels comfortable to you.
-
Many clients describe EMDR like unraveling a ball of yarn. It is emotionally intense work, but it comes with deep relief and understanding of your past feelings and experiences.
-
Annoying answer.. but, it depends. Some clients notice relief in just a couple of sessions. For more complex trauma, sometimes the process feels like peeling back the layers of an onion. Relief happens with each layer, but it takes time to get to the center (or root).
We will always go at a pace that supports your nervous system and feels comfortable to you.

My fee for services is $165 per 50 minute session. I have a limited number of sliding scale spots, based on financial need.
I am an “out of network” provider. If you have out of network benefits with your insurance provider, I am happy to provide a superbill to submit for reimbursement.
Being “out of network” allows several benefits:
I can keep your information completely confidential. I do not share notes or diagnoses with insurance companies.
I can offer more flexible and personalized care that is not dictated by the confines of your insurance company.
We can avoid surprise billing issues, clawbacks or other insurance issues that could lead to an interruption or termination of treatment.
We can focus on what’s best for you, not what insurance says is best for you!
